For 15 years, Jim Winter was the name used by writer TS Hottle to peddle PI novels about a Cleveland detective named Nick Kepler, a bizarre road trip novel called Road Rules, and several short stories. After beating his head against the traditional publishing wall, he decided to hang it up and write science fiction under his own name.
