  1. No one writes mob ficiton better than Stella. Everyone else wants to focus on the bosses; he shows what it’s like at ground level, where there’s no glamour, where he grounds his stories in dialog as good as anyone’s. JIMMY BENCH-PRESS is one of the two Stella novels I’ve yet to read, but it’s on the shelf, ready.

    I wasn’t aware a reader’s version of the Twain autobiography had been released. I didn’t want to fool with all the footnotes and scholarly comments, so i’d put off reading it. (Those things are important, but not to me.) I’ll be sure to get a copy of the reader’s version. Thanks for the heads up.
